writing an obituary for the funeral

Losing a family member or close friend can be devastating and can have a lasting effect on all who knew the person who has passed. Remembering someone special in a personal way can be healing for everyone concerned, for a eulogy is a deeply personal way of saying goodbye.

You are taking the time and expressing and sharing the love that you felt for that person. Grieving family and friends want others to remember their loved one's life and acknowledge them. Concentrate on the finer parts of their lives that touched people, even strangers.

Include in your eulogy the memories and anecdotes that best describe the deceased from your perspective. A poem you write for someone you know of might just bring the same reassuring message to other families who suffer through death. Finally, a eulogy needs to be written as a speech, in a form that is easy to deliver.

It is a chance to help others begin the transition to a life after the person's passing. Writing a eulogy should not be taken lightly.
